FRESH POLITICAL TWIST AS MIMIKO QUITS PDP, JOINS APC

Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding his political affiliation.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area, Mimiko stated that his decision takes effect from April 10, 2026.

According to the letter, the former governor said persistent speculations and repeated inquiries about his membership status made it necessary for him to clearly state his position.

He noted that having remained largely distant from party activities for some time, he considered it important to officially place on record that he is no longer a member of the PDP.

Mimiko further emphasized that the decision was taken without any bitterness or ill feelings towards anyone in the party.

Political sources, however, indicate that the former governor may be heading to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following reported meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other key leaders of the ruling party.

Observers also recall that in the build-up to the last governorship election in Ondo State, Mimiko did not openly support the PDP candidate, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, as many of his loyalists instead backed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Several of his close political associates, including Hon. Iranola Joseph Akinlaja, Hon. Alaba Lad Ojomo, Engineer Gboye Adegbenro, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, Jide Adejuyigbe, Ms. Taiwo Afilaka, Chief Mrs. Funmilola Oluwadare, Hon. Oladipupo Ajani, Comrade Solomon Adelegan, Comrade Femi Bosede, Hon. Adesoji Ayenuro, and Eni Akinsola, had earlier defected to the APC and played active roles in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s election.

Mimiko’s Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, said Confirmed this development, he said former governor has formally submitted his resignation letter from the PDP, but declined to provide further details.
