No fewer than 1,500 residents of Arigidi-Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State have received a boost to their livelihoods through an empowerment programme held in honour of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ahead of his 44th birthday on May 1.
The initiative, organised by the Bunmi Tunji-Ojo Movement (BTOM), goes beyond celebration, spotlighting the minister’s track record in public service and his contributions under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The atmosphere in the community was vibrant, with residents turning out in large numbers to witness and benefit from the programme.
The gathering brought together community leaders, political stakeholders, and beneficiaries from across Akoko North West, all united in a shared moment of support and recognition.

Organisers described the programme as a grassroots-driven intervention aimed at improving livelihoods while honouring impactful leadership.
Tunji-Ojo’s journey in public service was also highlighted—particularly his time in the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023, where he earned recognition for his work in ICT and public sector reform before his appointment as minister in 2023.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of BTOM, Stephen Agbi, said the empowerment reflects the minister’s deep commitment to human capital development.
In the same vein, the Akoko North West Local Government Party Chairman, Kehinde Obanla, commended Tunji-Ojo’s performance, noting that his leadership has continued to inspire confidence at the grassroots level.
Desmond Fowobi of the movement’s communications team described the outreach as a clear demonstration of the minister’s accessibility and consistent engagement with his constituents.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Atinuke Akadri, stressed the need for sustained empowerment initiatives, particularly for women and vulnerable groups, as a pathway to inclusive growth.
As part of the programme, beneficiaries received cash support and food items—gestures widely appreciated by recipients, many of whom described the intervention as timely and impactful.
